We are OUNA

Reshaping farewell. At OUNA, we view urns as ceramic design pieces. This is where nearly 60 years of artisanal tradition merge with a passionate openness to innovation.

For millennia, humans have shaped vessels from clay. For OUNA ceramic urns, we employ traditional casting techniques alongside innovative 3D printing. Each urn is glazed by hand, making it truly one of a kind.

Matthias and Gabriele Kaufmann’s expertise is rooted in ceramics that shape living spaces. With OUNA, they translate this understanding of interior aesthetics into a new form of remembrance. The result is a collection of urns that lend the final moment the exact same stylish presence one chose to be surrounded by in life.

The texture of the fired clay defines the design. It is the material itself that undergoes a transformation from dust to enduring substance.

Design by Kai Linke

An urn is one of the most profoundly personal objects there is. That is why I didn’t want to reduce it merely to the farewell, but rather give it a form that preserves the memory.

Kai Linke

German-Dutch designer Kai Linke shares a long-standing collaboration with Kaufmann Keramik. Early on, he began exploring the role design could play when it comes to urns. Over the years, one realization became increasingly clear: a profound gap exists between the emotional significance of a farewell and the actual design of urns. This reflection, shared with Kaufmann Keramik, sparked the impulse for OUNA. Together, they are developing new forms and perspectives for ceramic urns—driven by the ambition to give this highly personal object a contemporary and distinct design quality.
